Pick your species, thickness, width, and length. You get one board cut to those exact dimensions. Choose your milling: order it S4S surfaced to 150-grit and ready to use straight from the box, or S2S or rough-sawn if you’d rather do the final surfacing yourself. Listed thicknesses (4/4, 6/4, etc.) are nominal — S4S boards finish slightly under nominal once surfaced.

A finished wood board is one that has already been dried, straightened, and surfaced — so it arrives flat, square, and ready to cut to length. Most lumber sold by the board foot is rough: oversized, wavy-faced, and unusable until you run it through a jointer and planer. Every board on this page is milled to a real, stated dimension before it ships.
“Finished” is not the same as pre-finished. We do not apply stain, lacquer, or polyurethane to these boards. S4S boards are sanded to 150-grit, which is the point where most finishes go on cleanly with no further prep.
Hardwood thickness is quoted in quarters of an inch. Surfacing removes material, so an S4S board finishes under its nominal call-out:

There is no minimum — order one board. Price updates live as you change species, thickness, width, length, and milling, so what you see is what you pay before you add to cart. Boards are milled to order at our Meyersdale, Pennsylvania shop and ship nationwide in one to two weeks. Buying in volume instead? See bulk hardwood (500 BF minimum) or rough lumber by the board foot.
Are these boards ready to finish? S4S boards are surfaced flat and square and sanded to 150-grit. Most people go straight to stain or clear coat. S2S and rough-sawn boards need your own milling first.
Is the wood kiln-dried? Yes — every species is kiln-dried to 6–8% moisture content before surfacing, which is interior-stable in most of the country.
Do I get the exact width and length I order? Yes. Width and length are cut to your numbers. Only thickness differs from the call-out, because surfacing removes material — see the nominal-vs-actual list above.
Can I order a board wider than 12 inches? Not through the selector. Wider stock is glued up or sourced to order — call 412.641.0177 and we’ll price it.
What is the minimum order? One board. There is no minimum quantity and no cut fee.
